This week, we held math and P.E. English immersion classes with Daniel-sensei. Here are some comments about the classes.

【Grade 1 – Math】

We started off by reviewing what we learned last time.

The students did a great job remembering numerical order as well as the terms ‘front’ and ‘back.’ To add to this, we began learning the math expressions ‘There are’ and ‘There is’ which is very difficult, but essential to both math and English.

While they struggled at first, they were able to say it fluently and accurately. I hope to continue practicing with them next time.

【Grade 2 – Math】

Since using math expressions is essential to math and English teaching, we decided to review it in the 2nd grade class as well. The students seemed a lot more comfortable saying them compared to the 1st grade class, which is great to see.

After the review, we practiced solving word problems and telling time. These questions required students to be able to write in English rather than just numbers.

【Grade 1 – P.E.】

Since it is too hot outside, we had our lesson in the gymnasium. We started off by doing our normal exercises and stretches.

Then we had students practice tossing a ball in the air and catching it. They surprisingly had really good hand-eye coordination! After that, students had to clap while the ball was in the air. Some of them were able to clap ten times, which was really impressive.

We then played catch and afterwards they played American dodgeball. It was their first time playing it, but they had a lot of fun.

【Grade 2 – P.E.】

Similar to the 1^st grade class, we had our lesson in the gymnasium as well. We did our exercises and stretching, and then moved on to tossing and catching ball. The students were able to toss it really high in the air, so
